I have heard that many people think Justice Roberts was planning to rule with the conservatives on the individual mandate but changed his mind at the last minute.  Is there any evidence that this is true?

I'm sure Justice Roberts was pressured by the other justices, and I'm sure he seriously considered reaching different decisions at different times. I'm equally sure that he decided for himself ; that he knows that each decision he writes will go down in history with him; and that even if you could speak to him privately behind closed doors, he would stand by the decision he eventually authored.

Whether you or I agree with him is a separate question, but I cannot imagine what would cause a justice to author an opinion he did not believe.

I don't know if he was pressured, but I can't believe that he voted with liberals. Funny how Senator Obama did not vote in favor of the one guy that saved obamacare!

Does anyone think his intention was to deem the mandate a tax and stick Obama and congress with the political nightmare of justifying new taxes?  Obama did insist that the mandate was not a tax and that he would not raise taxes for anyone making under $250,000 a year.
